12-31-4 An alpha version of the Classic Doom for Doom 3 modification is now available, bringing gameplay aspects of the original DOOM to its recent remake. There are warning that as an alpha release, this mod is incomplete, and that gameplay issues are bound to pop up. These server-only patches clear up an undisclosed exploit. The CarBall Website now features a new version 2.3 of this automotive sporting modification for Unreal Tournament 2004. The update clears up an exploit, adds new skins, a new map, bug fixes, and more. The World of Warcraft Community Site has word on further one day extensions to trial accounts for Blizzard's MMORPG. Ubisoft's CSI Miami Website now offers a new version 1.01 patch for CSI: Miami. The 1.2 MB update clears a couple of gameplay roadblocks, accompanied by word that: "The above noted fixes are not applied to cases in progress. You must restart any case in progress after installing the update." The Matrox Graphics Latest Drivers Page now offers a new batch of drivers for various Matrox graphics cards. Apple aims to patent fall-detecting iPod. 12-28-4 Version 1.0 of the ARGG modification for Half-Life 2 is now available. The mod allows objects held by the gravity gun to be rotated, permitting easier manipulation of the environment and removing the headaches of trying to fit large objects through doorways. The project's name is short for "Adnan's Rotational Gravity Gun" rather than the frustrated sound of a HL2 player trying to stack the same pile of boxes for the fifth time. A manual edition of the new World of Warcraft update is now available for those unwilling or unable to have the MMORPG automatically update itself. The version 1.2.1 patch is a 56 MB download, available on 3D Gamers, FilePlanet (registration required), and Gameguru Mania. Matrix Games now offers online purchase of The Last Days, the second of their two add-ons for IL-2 Sturmovik, the World War II combat flight simulator. True to its name, the add-on is set in the closing days of World War II, and word is: "Experience over thirty dynamic campaigns. There will also be additional focus on the continuing storyline of The Matrix which will not be available during beta, for obvious reasons—we don't want to give anything away! This release on the newly relocated website represents the first version of this mod since the project changed hands. CarBall is a soccer/football type game where players in cars try to knock the ball into the goal be driving into it. 11-12-4 This barebones webpage offers a patch to get DOOM 3 running on a Voodoo 2 video card. There are screenshots showing off the results on 3dfxzone.it. TheSims2.com has details on plans for an upcoming patch for The Sims 2, Maxis' little people sequel. The story has a sketchy (anonymous) account of attempts to create a Halo film going back a few years, and how there is a renewed attempt to get Alien director Ridley Scott onboard, based on the somewhat implausible premise that Bungie will not allow anyone but Scott to script and direct the project. 11-5-4 Demo 2 of Eden Eclipse is now available, offering a further example of this modification for Unreal Tournament 2004.
