12-31-4 An alpha version of the Classic Doom for Doom 3 modification is now available, bringing gameplay aspects of the original DOOM to its recent remake. There are warning that as an alpha release, this mod is incomplete, and that gameplay issues are bound to pop up. Halo 2.5 and Xbox 2 – The Bomb! 12-30-4 The Speed Demos Archive now offers a faster speed run through Half-Life 2, which is down to 2:14:58. Microsoft Give Up Sports Titles to Take Two. The Zoo Empire Website now features a new patch for Zoo Empire, updating the theme park simulator to version 1.22. The update further refines the game's algorithms to keep animals from starving to death, as this tends to upset the guests, not to mention the animals. The ETF Website has a new gameplay movie from this Enemy Territory version of Q3F, along with January 15 as a release date for the project. An American Chopper Patch is now available, updating the motorcycle construction game to version 1.1. 12-29-4 The new Battlefield 2 Website is now online, dedicated to DICE's upcoming shooter sequel. The site offers subscriptions to a newsletter (which is already available), screenshots, and a new movie showing off some first-person action from the game. Thanks Total Battlefield 2, where they have a list of mirrors for another recently released first-person movie from the project. A new server-side patch for Call of Duty is now available, updating the World War II shooter to version 1.5b. This patch can be found on 3D Gamers and Worthplaying. Likewise, there's a new Call of Duty: United Offensive server patch, bringing the expansion server up to version 1.51b. The update is available on 3D Gamers and Worthplaying. These server-only patches clear up an undisclosed exploit. The CarBall Website now features a new version 2.3 of this automotive sporting modification for Unreal Tournament 2004. The update clears up an exploit, adds new skins, a new map, bug fixes, and more. The World of Warcraft Community Site has word on further one day extensions to trial accounts for Blizzard's MMORPG. Ubisoft's CSI Miami Website now offers a new version 1.01 patch for CSI: Miami. The 1.2 MB update clears a couple of gameplay roadblocks, accompanied by word that: "The above noted fixes are not applied to cases in progress. You must restart any case in progress after installing the update." The Matrox Graphics Latest Drivers Page now offers a new batch of drivers for various Matrox graphics cards. Apple aims to patent fall-detecting iPod. 12-28-4 Version 1.0 of the ARGG modification for Half-Life 2 is now available. The mod allows objects held by the gravity gun to be rotated, permitting easier manipulation of the environment and removing the headaches of trying to fit large objects through doorways. The project's name is short for "Adnan's Rotational Gravity Gun" rather than the frustrated sound of a HL2 player trying to stack the same pile of boxes for the fifth time. A manual edition of the new World of Warcraft update is now available for those unwilling or unable to have the MMORPG automatically update itself. The version 1.2.1 patch is a 56 MB download, available on 3D Gamers, FilePlanet (registration required), and Gameguru Mania. Matrix Games now offers online purchase of The Last Days, the second of their two add-ons for IL-2 Sturmovik, the World War II combat flight simulator. True to its name, the add-on is set in the closing days of World War II, and word is: "Experience over thirty dynamic campaigns. If Case Blue wasn’t large enough for you, how about over 1,600 new single player and multiplayer missions! The Last Days includes over 450 new historical aircraft skins that will make any military enthusiast drool with delight." 12-27-4 Steam News has details on updates for Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source now available via Steam. The Counter-Strike update adds missing models for the video stress test, while the Half-Life 2 update provides further help for those plagued with stuttering problems: "Fixed sound stuttering problems caused by thread contention in sound system." Winamp 5.08 is now available. 12-26-4 Three Days of The Matrix Online on IGN kicks off a planned three-part Q&A series on Monolith's upcoming Matrix MMORPG by talking with Joe Ybarra, producer on the project: "The Matrix Online plays at its best when the streets and nightclubs are crammed with people, instead of the intentionally limited beta population. There will also be additional focus on the continuing storyline of The Matrix which will not be available during beta, for obvious reasons—we don't want to give anything away! The live game will also benefit from a highly aggressive content update schedule, whereas our beta test is limited to the initial feature set." The Rockstar Classics Page now offers the PC edition of Grand Theft Auto 2 "completely optimized for play on modern PCs" as a free download as a gift for the holidays. A German demo is now available for Blitzkrieg: Rolling Thunder, the stand-alone expansion for Nival Interactive's World War II strategy game. The Classic Doom for DOOM 3 Website now offers Christmas Eve as the projected release date for their next alpha release. Egosoft confesses that X² - The Return is delayed, and that publisher Deep Silver now projects a Q2 2005 release for the X² - The Threat add-on, which was previously expected in February. As should be obvious from that description, this is an unofficial, unsupported patch, which is used at your own risk. That said, they say feedback on these unofficial patches has been positive. HyperSnap-DX version 5.62.01 is now available. 12-7-4 The Chronicles of Riddick continue on PC on GameSpot offers the low-key announcement that the PC Developer's Cut of Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay has shipped to stores. 12-6-4 The Space Interceptor Website has details on Merscom's MersCON, a virtual convention that will allow the opportunity to interface with the developers of Space Interceptor: Project Freedom and possibly win prizes including signed copies of the game and a chance to appear as a character in Space Interceptor 2. 12-5-4 As described on the Battlefield Vietnam Website a new Battlefield Vietnam Linux server is available as a full update, and a patch is available to update the Linux dedicated server for Battlefield 1942. Both updates can be found on the Battlefield Dedicated Server Forum. 12-4-4 A new German patch for Nexus - The Jupiter Incident is now available, updating this edition of the space combat game to version 1.01. The patch is a 22 MB download, available on 3D Gamers. 12-3-4 Steam News has word on an update to the Source engine that will be automatically applied when Steam is restarted: "Fixed clients being able to kick other clients from a server." 12-2-4 This WoW Gameplay Discussion has details on the promised World of Warcraft trial-period extensions based on the MMORPG's launch woes. 12-1-4 Half-Life 2 Tweaker 1.0 on Half-Life 2 Files offers "A Visual Basic programmed tool to create config files with Half-Life 2 Tweaks."... 11-29-4 The Steam Users Forums offers a solution for owners of the boxed retail version of Half-Life 2 who are vexed that they are required to have the game CD or DVD in a drive to run the game. Once you register your key through Steam, you can also download the game through the broadband delivery service, after which the game can be played without the disk present. The debut release of the Half-Life 2 Multiplayer modification is now available. The German-language site offers alpha version 1.1a (also listed as 1.01a) of this project to allow deathmatch play in the Half-Life 2 environment. The Q2K4 Project Homepage now offers a new version 1.40 of this modification to the Quake engine. There are screenshots showing off the results on 3dfxzone.it. Half-Life 2 Files now offers downloads of a small Bullet Time modification for Half-Life 2. Word is: "Here's a tiny simple script for hl2, which makes the game go "bullet-time" when pressing "b" button and while in bullet-time the physics and ragdolls fly a lot further than in normal mode. Due to no physics on bullets except crossbow, grenades, rpg and bugbait, the other weapons' bullets wont slow down." 11-17-4 Steam News announces that Half-Life 2 authentication issues have been solved. "THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER" screams the Ensemble Studios Website in what is presumably a tease for the imminent announcement of Age of Empires 3. 11-13-4 The CarBall Website now features a new version 2.2 of the CarBall modification for Unreal Tournament 2004. This release on the newly relocated website represents the first version of this mod since the project changed hands. CarBall is a soccer/football type game where players in cars try to knock the ball into the goal be driving into it. 11-12-4 This barebones webpage offers a patch to get DOOM 3 running on a Voodoo 2 video card. There are screenshots showing off the results on 3dfxzone.it. TheSims2.com has details on plans for an upcoming patch for The Sims 2, Maxis' little people sequel. The post outlines all the changes and fixes planned for the patch, accompanied by the following comment: "That's right - the patch is in the final stages of certification and should be available very, very soon. We really appreciate all of the feedback that you've given us and wanted to share with you details about items that should be resolved with this patch." 11-10-4 The id SDK Website now offers a second version of the Software Development Kit for DOOM 3. Ain't It Cool News mongers some rumors about negotiations at Warner Bros. about a Halo movie project. The story has a sketchy (anonymous) account of attempts to create a Halo film going back a few years, and how there is a renewed attempt to get Alien director Ridley Scott onboard, based on the somewhat implausible premise that Bungie will not allow anyone but Scott to script and direct the project. 11-5-4 Demo 2 of Eden Eclipse is now available, offering a further example of this modification for Unreal Tournament 2004. In addition to the new release, The Eden Eclipse Q&A on Unreal 4 Players talks with the team behind the project about what the future holds for them. The Strike Force 2004 Website now offers downloads of the full version 2 of the Strike Force modification as entered in the Make Something Unreal competition. In addition to a bunch of fixes and tweaks, the new version includes 10 maps. 11-3-4 A new version 3.1 of the Red Orchestra modification for Unreal Tournament 2004 is now available. Included in the new version are three new maps and a new vehicle. 11-1-4 The Chaotic Dreams Website now offers public release version 3.6 of the ChaosUT modification for Unreal Tournament 2004.
