This Codemasters Downloads Page now offers an uninstaller for the StarForce copy protection that some users have found problematic. The file is listed as a ToCA Race Driver 2 download, but it seems likely that this will work on systems that have had this software installed by a different game or application.

A new version 0.32 server-only patch is now available for Heat Of Battle, the teamplay modification for Call of Duty, Infinity Ward's World War II shooter. Word is: "Server admins who are interested in turning FF off, utilizing a map time limit, and want more control over the features on their servers should download this. We're hoping this will keep HoB stable enough to allow the team to work on all of the fantastic new features being planned for v0.4."

A patch is now available for the recent Ground Control II multiplayer demo, updating this sample of Massive Entertainment's RTS sequel to the startlingly infinitesimal version 0.00.0081.

A new version 2.1 patch is now available for Red Orchestra, the World War II Eastern Front modification for Unreal Tournament 2004. The new release addresses a number of bugs while adding new features, including a new overhead map.

A new version 1.7 of the CarBall modification for Unreal Tournament 2004 is now available, breaking the cycle of near-daily releases of this automotive mod, though not by much. The page describes problems with one map that will be addressed in the next version, and also features downloads of a couple of additional external maps.

This Shrapnel Games Downloads Page now features a new version 2.12 patch for Dominions II: The Ascension Wars. Here's the word: "As in previous patches while the new patch will not render your old saved games inoperable you won't be able to have older versions read version 2.12 saved games, so everyone must update at once in an existing multiplayer game."

The Restaurant Empire Website reveals plans for Zoo Empire: "The game, which is released soon, allows you to build and manage your own zoo! Over 200 buildings and 40 species, all presented in full 3D! You can even add trains and boats to let your visitors roam the zoo in depth. A Deluxe Edition of the game Doom 3 will be launched on the 27/08/04 this in the States. No information has been provided as to what will be in this limited release but it should be noted that standard version of Doom 3 will not ship until eight weeks after the Deluxe Edition. It has also been confirmed that the game will be released on DVD only, so those still without a DVD-Rom that want to play this game will need to get one soon.

America's Army "Downrange" patch is now available, updating the free Unreal-engine shooter to version 2.1.0. The debut release of the Alien Swarm modification for Unreal Tournament 2004 is now available for download. Here's the description of the mod: "Alien Swarm is an overhead view tactical squad-based shooter for UT2K4. Set in the the distant future, the players take the role of a Commander in the Interstellar Armed Forces. They must guide their squad of marines through Swarm infested colonies, overrun bases and outposts, to achieve a variety of objectives. HomeLAN Fed's DOOM 3 Q&A talks with id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead about progress on DOOM 3: "The PC game will be released this summer, but I don't know if the release will be before or after QuakeCon. I expect that we will work with Activision to have the Xbox version playable there, even if it's basically the same part of the game that was playable on the floor at E3."

The Warcraft III: Frozen Throne Bonus Maps Page now offers a new map for the RTS add-on called Slalom, a 232 KB download described like so: "Even this far south, Northrend has no mercy. The Linux edition of the new version 3204 patch for Unreal Tournament 2004 is now available, bringing the penguin-powered version of the shooter in line with the Windows edition. The patch is a 19 MB download, available from 3D Gamers and FileFront.  The release of the Community Bonus Pack for Unreal Tournament 2004 is now available, though apparently not yet on the project's official website. The 194 MB pack can be found on BeyondUnreal, FileFront, FilePlanet (registration required), Gamer's Hell, and Worthplaying. According to BeyondUnreal: "Note that this is just the first volume of the CBP. The second volume will be released next Thursday, May 17th, and will feature more all-new content that wasn't quite ready in time for the deadline. More MMORPG testing madness, as The Matrix Online Beta Registration is now underway, open to residents of the U.S. and Canada. According to the website they will choose several thousand applicants to test Monolith's upcoming MMORPG, with those selected to be notified of their participation sometime this month. Word is:

Those fortunate few in the beta will take an active role in continuing the saga, created by the Wachowski Brothers in The Matrix movie trilogy, set immediately after the end of The Matrix Revolutions. Beta testers will engage in "wire-fu" combat and action in an immense urban environment. The game will be a re-creation of the virtual world of The Matrix, employing cutting-edge 3-D graphics, networking and server technology. Gameplay in The Matrix Online will be based an extensive mission structure, social interaction and a completely customizable skill and ability system.

Namco Hometek Inc has announced their lineup of titles and demonstrations for the upcoming E3 event. On deck are Ace Combat 5, Tekken 5, Xenosaga Episode II, Dead to Rights II, Time Crisis: Crisis Zone, Tales of Symphonia, Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament 2, Street Racing Syndicate, Death by Degrees, Ghosthunter, Baten Kaitos, and The Adversary. Sony has announced that the summer of 2004 will see the release of Gran Turismo 4: Prologue for the Sony PlayStation 2 video game console. GT4 has already enjoyed a very successful release in Japan and the franchise has sold more than 35 million units worldwide.

Midway Games has announced that Shadow Hearts: Covenant, the sequel to the popular role-playing game Shadow Hearts, will be available in North America and Europe in the fall of 2004 for the Sony PlayStation 2 video game console. Shadow Hearts: Covenant is known as Shadow Hearts 2 in Japan.

Vivendi Universal Games has announced that SWAT 4 is currently under development at Irrational Games with an expected ship date of Q1 2005. SWAT 4 will allow players to take control of five officers tasked with high risk arrests, hostage rescue and counter terrorism..

GMX Media has announced that new screenshots and a movie are available for D-Day 1944 and add-on pack for the Combat Flight Simulator 3 from Microsoft. The new add-on will be available May 28, 2004.

THQ Inc has announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire development studio, Relic Entertainment. THQ had already been partnered with Relic on a multi-year deal which includes the publishing rights to Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.

Electronic Arts has announced that The Lord of the Rings, The Third Age is currently under development with a plan to ship in late 2004 for the Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Sony PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameBoy Advance video game console.

Atari Inc has announced a new racing game has been added to their lineup. Test Drive: Even of Destruction for the Sony PlayStation 2 video game console is being developed by Monster Games and based on real life extreme racing events. Test Drive: Even of Destruction is the latest installment in the Test Drive franchise, which debuted in 1987, and features 25 different racing events including hauling trailers and driving a hearse as well as more than 30 different vehicles.
