2-28-1 The official Q3Log site has posted version 1.20 this log analysis tool, which contains a completely new look for the program as well as Team Arena support. Preview release 2 of Who's the Winner for Quake III Arena has been released. WTW is a log analysis program that generates HTML pages, and this latest release adds support for Q3 Fortress, Alliance CTF, Hellfire Arena and other mods along with other miscellaneous changes and fixes. Happy Puppy has conducted an interview with Clive Barker, talking about his just-released title Clive Barker's Undying. Lava pool Entertainment released it's first beta of a so called 'practice' mod; q3trainer. It's mainly designed for offline use, but it is not impossible to use it in a multiplayer game. Some of it's features are: Extended Scoreboard, including per weapon damage, accuracy, hits and frags. Accuracy per weapon on HUD, customizable damage done by weapons. Further details can be found at their web site. 2-26-1 The Art of War team has posted a Public Test v1.1.0 release of their new mod for QUAKE 3. Here's what they had to say about it:Most of the changes are gameplay tweaks. This version has more of an emphasis on teamwork throughout all factions. There is also more encouragement to use the classes you have access to, and this was done by slowing down the growth rate a little. Some classes, such as the troll, arch mage, and monk, have been modified so they require support from other classes to be truly powerful. This new version has been overhauled for Q3A 1.27, and contains a new user interface, new CTF medals and other new scoreboard items along with the requisite bug fixes. 2-20-1 An update on the official Quake III Arena Freestyle site brings the beta release of a "vm .pk3 file" that adds most of the features of Q3A mod to the Team Arena mission pack. 2-19-1 There is a new version 1.0b of SimpleStats available, updating this "Concise Fraglogfile Parser for QuakeWorld2.3+" by QMass.net. This release offers enhanced HTML output, an improved scripting package for stats automation, and some bug fixes. Also available is a downloadable PDF version of Adrian's BIOS Optimization Guide. 2-18-1 Logitech has released version 9.26 of their MouseWare software (direct FTP link). 2-17-1 The Star Wars Quake II website has the release of the first DM test version of their Force-heavy modification of Quake II. Word is that the test release is of a deliberately limited scope, and does not include many maps, but is mainly to test "force use, saber use, and weapon use together with player movement." Westlake has posted an update on Deus Ex, announcing that the multiplayer patch for the Mac edition of ION Storm's acclaimed 3D action RPG is now being ported, as they found "the changes not as substantial as expected, allowing [them] to provide the Mac patch at no additional cost." The patch should be available as a free download in 2 to 3 weeks and will allow Mac and PC gamers to play against eachother. 2-16-1 id Software has just

Art of War centers around this premise: "Teams create different buildings which unlock new, more powerful classes for that team. You win the game by destroying enemy buildings." The initial release clocks in at a mere 1.8 MB download. 2-14-1 Happy Valentines day everyone. Alliance Games - for Quake 3 have a new version 2.3 of Alliance for Quake III Arena. They say that this is the final version. The NVmax Homepage has a new version 1.4 of the NvMax NVIDIA tweaking utility for Win9x and a new version of the CPUCooL utility is now available. Version 1.3 of the Superconfigurable Team Arena mod for Quake III Arena has been released. A new patch for Quake III Arena Freestyle is now available. Beta 04 of the Q3 True Combat mod for Quake III Arena has been released. 2-13-1 ShellShock's Crater has a new version of the Q3Offline utility, which allows you to quickly and easily set up single player Quake III Arena games with a large degree of control over the bots you will be playing with and against. The new version now offers support for Quake III: Team Arena. 2-12-1 Valve Software e-mailed me to say that the next version 1.1.0.6 of Half-Life is scheduled for release later this month, which will include new player models for all Team Fortress Classic classes, among other changes. Mac and Unix. 2-10-1 Straight from the Gridiron comes word that they have released version 2.30 of their Quake3 mod. What is Gridiron you ask? Simple--it's football with rocket launchers. Even more violent that the XFL. Maybe. id Software and EA have announced "Quake III Revolution" for the PS2. Interestingly enough, Bullfrog will be developing the title, which should be released in 2001. Karnatos at Stomped.com sends word that he has finished a review of Kitcarson's Stainless Cage Map for Quake3. I just got done looking at some of the screenshots and it's looks pretty sweet. You can read all about it or get it if you're tired of the same old maps here. 2-9-1 Laura from GameSpot sends word that they've an extensive review of Quake III TeamArena. The review takes an honest and hard look at why you may or may not want to pick up your copy of TeamArena, and showcases some of the cooler features in the mission pack. In addition, there's an impressive screenshot gallery to go along with the review boasting some of TA's juicier moments. 2-8-1 The QuakeForge Project website has a new beta 7 of the QuakeWorld compatible tree of the QuakeForge project, which is a collaborative update of the publicly-available Quake source code. According to a story at Variety.com, Interplay has finalized a deal with Warner Brothers for the rights to create multiple games based on The Matrix. 2-6-1 The official site for the Annihilation mod for Quake III Arena has been updated with new images showing off their menu system and weapon models. nVidia has officially released the Detonator 3 drivers version 6.50 for Win9x/ME, Win2000 and WinNT. 2-5-1 Quake 3 Arena is reviewed on PlayNOW. Version 1.48 of the NVmax utility for NVIDIA based cards has been released, fixing a problem in the last release. Also, version 2.6.1 of the Geforce Tweak Utility is available. 2-4-1 Version 2.6 of the Windows 2000 Hints & Tips guide at Adrian's Rojak Pot is online. 2-3-1 The guys at id has updated their Quake III: Team Arena FAQ with a new question dealing with problems with missing textures. 2-2-1 Doomworld has the revelation that id Software has registered UA-Corp.com in what is obviously a tie-in to the upcoming Doom game. Doom fans will recall this as the fictional company responsible for all those crates, as well as the teleporter disaster, in the original Doom games. Beta 3 of the TargetQuake mod for Quake III Arena has been released. Stomped has posted an interesting article that looks back at the various commercial add-ons for the Quake titles. The article looks at the official, the unofficial, and the really really unofficial add-ons, and there are quotes in here from id Software's Todd Hollenshead, Levelord, Rogue's Jim Molinets and others. 2-1-1 GameSpot has a Q&A on Star Wars: Episode 1 Battle for Naboo, talking to project leader Brett Tosti about this upcoming flying shooter. Brett discusses the game's premise, vehicles, missions, and other features, and there are also a few new screenshots. Furthermore, 13 new gameplay movies are online to show the game in action. Version 1.3 of the Dominator mod for Unreal Tournament has been released. This new version adds a new web-based admin interface for server operators, new HUD icons, a new Domination Scoring option that makes the mod more like the regular UT Domination mission type, and more. Planet Duke's Duke Nukem Forever FAQ is now online. id software is 10 YEARS OLD TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1-31-1 American McGee's Alice is reviewed on SharkyGames, Lag News, and The Dragon Network. A new version 17.8 of the GeForce FAQ is now available and a new version 2.6 of the Geforce Tweak Utility is now available. 1-30-1 Hardware Assassin's UT Tweak Guide runs through some of the options in Unreal Tournament giving tips on how to configure the game to load and run smoother and faster. 1-29-1 Today is the fifth anniversary of the release of the shareware Duke Nukem 3D Version 2.24 of GameSpy 3D is now available for both registered and shareware users. This new version adds support for ten new games and demos, including Quake III: Team Arena, Half-Life: Counter-Strike, No One Lives Forever and RUNE. 1-28-1 A post called Designers sought for Deus Ex 2 on the ION Storm Bulletin Board has the details behind ION's hunt for experienced folks to design levels for Deus Ex 2, their upcoming action/RPG follow-up. The job is a full-time position that will require relocation to Austin, TX. 1-27-1 The Freeze Tag page has a new version 1.4a of this Quake III Arena and Team Arena mod for download. This release adds more spawn points to maps, the ability to drop any powerup or holdable item, improved bot AI, rewritten spectator code, and more. The Microsoft Download Center now has downloads of Direct X 8.0a offering "updates for issues with international installs on Windows 2000 and issues where input devices could have buttons disabled that were enabled with previous DirectX releases." Strategy First sent me an e-mail that Europa Universalis, the empire-building strategy game from Paradox Entertainment has gone gold. No specific release date is given, but they do say that the North American version will be available in "late February." 1-26-1 Version 1.41 of NVmax, a tweaking utility for NVIDIA based cards has been released. Matrox has released updated drivers for their G200, G400 and G450 video cards under Win9x, WinMe, WinNT and Win2K. 1-25-1 Tech-Review's weekly CPU Price Chart is online, and Sharky Extreme has updated their weekly CPU price list as well as their weekly memory price list. 1-24-1 This press release on BarrysWorld announces the closing of the UK based gaming service that provides servers for clans and leagues throughout Europe, a dial-up gaming ISP, hosting for gaming sites, and other gaming news and content. Founded in 1998 as a game server run by volunteers, and despite initial funding last April, the service has been unable to raise additional funds to continue operations, and decided to voluntarily liquidate the company by February 5, with services to cease around January 31. Additional background information is available in this personal statement by content director Ben Lawton, who also makes a call for last minute rescue offers. A new version of the CPUCooL utility is now available. TECH EXTREME's Proper Benchmarking offers opinions on the right way and the wrong way to evaluate a system using Quake III Arena. Pocket Quake, thankfully, has nothing to do with that question, much less the answer, but rather offers a port of Quake for ARM Pocket PC users. The program supports a lot of mods. A new version 1.1 of the Quake III Logfile Analyzer is now available. The program takes the server log from a Quake III Arena match and extract meaningful information, including player ratings; player comparisons; info on frags, deaths, and suicides per hour; and more. GameSpot UK has a new guide to Hitman: Codename 47. The guide has specific walkthroughs for each of the game's twelve missions, as well as some general spoiler-free tips. The QERadiant.com website has the release of the source code for the GtkRadiant level editor for Quake III Arena and their modified version of q3map. The site also offers instructions for getting the source code, setting up the 3rd party libraries, and compiling. Dead Alfs interviews Joe Goss, director of Quake - The Movie, a production currently underway using the Quake III engine to create a nearly full-length motion picture. A new version 1.5 of the Windows 2000 game launcher is now available from GamerOffice. The updated version of this utility promises to improve framerates for supported games under Win2K, and the new version does not even require that game be launched with the utility. 1-18-1 Version 0.99r of the OSP Tourney DM mod for Quake III Arena has been released. This new version fixes crashes in the previous release, and it also contains a variety of other tweaks, improvements and fixes. A brief preview of Myth III: The Wolf Age, Mumbo Jumbo's sequel to Bungie's series of strategy games, is up at Computer Games Online 1-17-1 A new version 4.0 of the Make It Compatible utility is now available from RTD Quake III, which allows Quake III Arena players to readily switch between running version 1.17 and version 1.27g of Q3A without running two separate installations of the game. This release, which uses VB programming rather than batch files, is called the "final" version, and adds a version checker, the option to start Q3A after switching, and a new point-and-click interface. Ensemble Studios has released a new random map script for Age of Empires II: the Conquerors. Electronic Arts has new movies featuring footage from Clive Barker's Undying, the almost complete Unreal engine title from Dreamworks Interactive. The first movie shows some first person action and is available in both high and low resolution versions, while the second, which is also available in both high and low resolution versions, contains a look at one of the third person death sequences. All four are in QuickTime format. 1-13-1 Team Reaction has released version 1.27 of the Q3A Jailbreak mod for Quake III Arena. Beta 6 of QuakeForge, the open-source Quake engine project has been released. 1-12-1 A new patch for Hellfire Arena for Quake III Arena is now available. Version 102 of UT Jailbreak is out. A new version 0.6b of ZDoomGL is now available on Kokak's Doom Page, updating his OpenGL port of the ZDoom port of the public DOOM source code. GamerOffice.com has the debut release of their Windows 2000 Games and Applications Launcher, which can ease the process of running games under Win2K by automatically setting them to run at a higher priority, helping to prevent slowdowns. 1-11-1 GameSpot has a full guide to American McGee's Alice. It's available online in HTML format, or as a downloadable PDF file. 1-10-1 The Quake3Arena Coliseum2 page has a new version 2.1 of the Coliseum 2 mod for Quake III Arena. A new version 1.1 of Q3Plug is now available, updating this web browser plugin that is an independent rewrite of the original QPlug. This release adds support for Quake II engine games, Half-Life and Unreal Tournament, as well as several other improvements, and works with Internet Explorer versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, Netscape Navigator version 4.x and Opera version 4.0 and 5.01 on Microsoft Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 Professional. Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled their next batch of computers, and for the first time in recent memory, some of them will contain a non-ATI video chip. The higher-end systems will have processor speeds up to 733 MHz, a DVD-R drive(not a DVD-RAM), and video powered by NVIDIA's GeForce 2 MX chipset. 1-9-1 As promised, id Software has released a beta version 1.27h patch for Quake III Arena for download from their ftp server and mirrored on cdrom.com (816 KB). This patch requires the 1.27g point release and addresses the previously mentioned multiplayer exploit bug, the mouse sensitivity, and a few other issues as listed in the README:

This release adds even more commands, a performance tweak, and more. 1-6-1 A new beta version 1.2 of the Western Quake 3 mod is now available at its official site. WesternQ3 is a mod that "wants to bring the awesome wild west-atmosphere to your stunning quake 3 engine," and this release brings point release 1.27g compatibility as well as several gameplay improvements and bug fixes, and comes as a small patch to update the previous beta version. A new preview of Creative Labs' Mac OS version of their SB Live! sound card is up at Inside Mac games, looking at the product that will give Mac gamers the opportunity to experience full EAX audio. Microsoft sent a press release describing Bill Gates' unveiling of the Xbox at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in a demonstration that featured "The Rock" of WWF fame. The release goes on with current system specs and a description of the couple of pre-release games they demonstrated. Meanwhile, www.xbox.com is now sporting an interactive Flash animation featuring the upcoming console system, and Planet GeForce has re-posted some Xbox pictures they had previously pulled, as well as some new ones, while ActiveXBox' CES Roundup recaps the speech, and there's an XBox chat log on XboxFaction featuring comments from MS' J Allard. 1-5-1 Quake III: Team Arena is reviewed on Gamecenter and Happy Puppy. 1-4-1 A new mod called Eternal Menu, the first beta release of which is now available on Q3Center. A new version 2.12 of Q3A Quick Statistix for Windows/DOS is now available, updating this utility that can extract statistics from a Quake III Arena server log and present them in useful HTML format. Sharky Extreme's CPU Overclocking Basics guide and Harry's AMD Overclocking FAQ on Apu's Hardware are both now online and ready. Version 2.0 of the Alliance CTF mod for Quake III Arena has been released. It's available for download as either a huge version for new users (118 MB) or as a slightly more reasonable version for those that already have Alliance 1.0 (71.3 MB), and as its size might suggest, is loaded with new features, including 26 maps, three gameplay modes, new sounds and more. 1-3-1 A new version 2.1.2 of PrBoom is now available at its SourceForge homepage. PrBoom is a port of the public DOOM source code that offers OpenGL acceleration. 1-2-1 Yes and thank you for advising me (three e-mails so far) that this date format that I am using is not Y2K+10 compatible. Believe it or not I do know this already. The Freeze Tag page offers a new version 1.4 of this Quake III Arena mod for download. Freeze Tag is a mod where teamplay centers around freezing your enemies while thawing your friends.
