2-29-4 Three new gameplay movies showing off the Source-engine gameplay from Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines are now available, the movies can be found on FilePlanet (registration required) - here and here and here. All three movies are also available on 3D Gamers, FileFan, Filerush, Gamer's Hell, and Worthplaying. 2-28-4 PlanetAgeOfMythology has posted an update from Ensemble's Mike McCart concerning stat upload problems in the online mode of Age of Mythology, and how this issue is under investigation. Fans of Age of Mythology may want to read it. The EVE Online Website points out that the first newsletter for fans of this space faring MMORPG has been sent out to players, carrying tons of good information and up-to-date news, so check into it if you're into EVE. The official Website for Ultima Online has comments by MrTact of the UO Team, who talks about the character transfer service, the service that Origin is currently working on to move characters from one server to another along with their goodies. He presents some of his thoughts on the challenges this service represents, and this might be an interesting read for those of you who play Ultima Online. 2-27-4 What's planned as the final release of the Quake III Arena edition of the Urban Terror modification is now available, and keeping with that, what had been version 3.3 of the mod has now been re-dubbed version 1.0. As has been previously noted, the future of this project lies elsewhere, as they have announced plans to continue development of the mod as a stand-alone Enemy Territory game. Atari and Epic Games' ``Unreal Tournament 2004'' Demo Becomes One of the Most Popular Game Downloads of All Time is the press release with some hype about the new demo: "Gamers worldwide have made the trial version of "Unreal® Tournament 2004" one of the most popular game demo downloads of all time, with more than 1.5 million downloads in the first week of availability. The demo first hit the Internet on Wednesday, February 11, and was distributed on a worldwide scale." Icculus.Org now offers a patch to update the Linux version of the Unreal Tournament 2004 Demo, with a fix for the ping field as well as hooks to make use of an external text-to-speech processor. The download is mirrored on 3D Gamers, Adrenaline Vault, FileFan, and FileFront. The Matrox Graphics Certified Drivers Page offers downloads of new version 5.92.006 drivers for a number of their video cards running under several different flavors of Windows. 2-26-4 Shadowalker's Relm now offers downloads of version 1.90 of Ultimate Deathmatch for Quake, a mod for the original Quake. Here's a bit: "UD can edit level items in real time. You have access to 50+ (variables) to change the dynamics of play. Configuration files allow easy setup of these (variables) from map startup. You can change these (variables) in real time through the console. For some of the (variables), you can rotate values though a menu. Spawning items is really easy, just enter spawnmenu." The Third Reich Q&A on Boomtown is a conversation with the team behind The Third Reich, the World War II modification for Unreal Tournament, discussing plans for an upcoming UT2004 version of the project. A new patch for Chrome is now available, updating every language edition except for the Russian translation of Techland's first-person shooter to version 1.2.0.0. Along with the new patch, a new version of the multiplayer demo for the game is now available, with the MP Demo 2004 adding a few new maps to the mix from the original multiplayer demo. Major League Gaming (MLG) has announced that the #1 ranked gamer at the end of the 2004 MLG season for ESPN NFL Football will see their name and likeness appear as a free agent in the 2005 release of ESPN NFL Football. The champion will also be offered an MLG professional gaming management contract and join the ranks of other elite professional gamers. 2-22-4 The Star Wars Galaxies site has posted a new team comment, this time from SWG Executive Producer Rich Vogel. He assesses the game's progress since its release, talks about its achievements and the recent improvements in the game, and talks about some upcoming changes in the game and future plans including the expansion that will add flying space ships. Vivendi Universal Games announced Van Helsing for the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox will hit retail in spring 2004 (about the same time as the film's release). Based on the film from Universal Pictures, Van Helsing is an action-adventure film from writer-director Stephen Sommers, (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns) that draws a lot inspiration from Universal Studios' classic vampire films. More importantly, the film and introduces Van Helsing, Bram Stoker's fabled monster hunter, who is summoned to Eastern Europe to vanquish evil. The movie stars Hugh Jackman (X-Men, Swordfish, Kate & Leopold) and Kate Beckinsale (Pearl Harbor) and is slated for a May 7th, 2004 release. 2-21-4 The first of a series of weekly Development Updates on Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines has been posted to the IGN boards by Community Liaison Shane DeFreest. He talks about the path of thaumaturgy and whether or not it's going to be in the game, and the flexibility of the game's feeding system. Vampire is Troika's upcoming first-person RPG set in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe from White Wolf. ELSPA has released its latest UK weekly software sales chart for the week ending January 24, 2004. Check out the chart below: 1 NEED FOR SPEED: UNDERGROUND 2-20-4 FroGames announced today MiniOne Racing, a combat racing game for the PC and Mac currently in development. In the game players take control of tiny armed vehicles and race 20 different tracks and arenas set in and around beaches, campsites, school playgrounds, the moon, etc. The game features single player, two player head-to-head play and four player gameplay via the Internet or a LAN. A release date is to be announced. Atari today announced that it has moved the ship date of DRIV3R from the end of March to June 1st. The company apparently wants to spend a little more time marketing the game before releasing it. No other reason for the delay was revealed. DRIV3R is the third installment in Atari's popular action-driving game, in case you didn't know. PlanetAgeOfMythology has posted the complete patch readme file from 1.09, the upcoming Age of Mythology patch. The patch will fix a database exploit, an illegal market trade exploit, zoom cheats, and free resources. For the Age of Titans add-on it fixes even more: unit balance adjustments, Isis monument protection, increases Heka Gigantes hitpoints, increases minotaur speed, and performs numerous other improvements. There's also a new diary by the Lead Character Artist who talks about the challenges of making scalable art, so that the engine can work for modern video cards and leave room for additions to the graphics in future video cards, and he talk about some of the interesting features that Middle Earth Online's graphics will make use of. It is compatible with both Steam and WON, and will not replace your existing NS install. This update includes more than ten new maps, a new user-interface, hundreds of bug fixes and more. 2-18-4 The promised Painkiller demo is now available, offering a chance to check out single-player play in People Can Fly's upcoming first-person shooter. Valve Speaks Part One on HalfLife2.Net has loads of details on plans for Half-Life 2, constructed from the replies from Valve to various emails about the upcoming shooter sequel. They discuss various concerns about the upcoming game, including questions generated by a frame-by-frame analysis of the E3 videos. Mozilla Firefox version 0.8 is now available, the latest version of the browser formerly known as Firebird. 2-11-4 The PunkBuster Website has word on the release of a new version 1.074 of the PB server for Battlefield 1942 for download and auto-update. The BloodRayne 2 Q&A on The Armchair Empire chats with Liz Buckley, product manager on the original BloodRayne as well as the upcoming sequel to the vampiric third-person action game. They discuss the game's story, plans for a tie-in movie, showing the game at E3, how criticisms of the original will be addressed, and more. 2-9-4 Alpha version 0.5 of the FinnWars modification for Battlefield 1942 is now available. As can be inferred from the title, this modification focuses on the World War II battles that took place in Finland. The Silicon Ice Development Homepage has word that Urban Terror, the popular Quake III Arena modification, is going to become an Enemy Territory modification. The update says: "We have been discussing this for awhile now. After some discussions with id Software and Splash Damage, we have decided to move forward with our plans," and "We know there are many out there who want to know what is going to happen to Quake 3 Urban Terror. The Macintosh users are a bit uneasy, since there is no support for ET. A story on Cinescape has word that the film rights to American McGee's upcoming Wizard of Oz-inspired game have been acquired by Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Walt Disney Pictures. Word is: "Although the film has no definitive plan for when it will move into production, the screenwriting brother duo of Kevin and Dan Hageman are now working on the film's script. These clips require the DivX codec. 1-23-4 The Official Unreal II Expanded Multiplayer Resource now offers downloads of a new version 7710 patch for the expanded multiplayer edition of Unreal II. The new version reduces server CPU usage, fixes a bunch of bugs, and adds new features, all detailed in the changelog. The downloads page lists mirrors of the dedicated server, a full new XMP installer, and incremental update, as well as a small patch that must be applied by owners of the Unreal II Special Edition in advance of the XMP update. The ATI Technologies Website now offers downloads of new version 4.1 CATALYST reference drivers for their graphic accelerators. What's new and different can be found in the release notes. 1-20-4 A weblog post mentioned in a Slashdot story apparently gives the account of a San Francisco native's encounter with the FBI as the fed's raided his home looking for evidence in connection with the theft of the Half-Life 2 source code. An interesting home-grown company called Nightmare Armor is creating armor that people can wear themed after Bungie's Halo game and armor based on the movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. On the World of Warcraft forums, word has been let out that signups for the beta will be available before the end of January.
