A new version of /\/\atchMod for Quake II is now available. This is a server-only mod that boasts "the most advanced, multi-optioned, -=Bot Crusher=- mod ever made in multiple flavors all over the Internet without having to download or configure a thing." The features page offers a full rundown on the mod, which, in addition to the anti-cheating functions, adds saved player info that restores your frags and other stats upon reconnecting after a disconnect, and a load of configurable options, including a default mode that supports standard OGL rules. If you are the type that likes to shake gifts to guess at their contents before opening, you may be interested in the list of fixes included in the upcoming Unreal Tournament version 406 patch on Unreal Universe sent along by Epic's Steve Polge. The list finally includes a fix for the obscure GeForce startup problem that a few folks experience. As promised, Epic has released the Unreal Tournament Bonus Pack for download at Gamecenter. It comes in PC and Mac versions as a 13.8 MB download (that are actually the same file though, so no need to get them both), and contains 11 new multiplayer levels, 3 new character meshes, and the Relics, special items that imbue a player with certain powers. A new version 1.23 of Q3Post is now available at its new home. Q3Post is a utility that posts a server's IP address and description to IRC when you jump into a Quake III Arena game, and the new version offers additional customization features and fixes a couple of bugs. Electronic Arts sent me seven images from The World is Not Enough, their upcoming Quake III Arena engine James Bond title for the PC and Playstation 2. There are two in-game shots, two shots of early maps in Q3Radiant, two composite shots with a mixture of in-game and concept renders, and of course, that spiffy logo. Several of these appeared in Next-Generation Magazine, although these are the first time they're appearing in high-resolution form online. As can be surmised from the name, this is a program designed to assist modelers in the addition of bot support to their models for Quake III Arena. The program allows you to give a bot weapon preferences and other skills, without having to crack open the Q3A source code. A new version 1.01 patch for Assimilation 2 is now available, updating this teamplay mod for Quake III Arena. This new version adds bump mapping and slipgate mirrors to their already impressive feature set. ATI has released new drivers for their Rage 128 and 128 Pro based video cards, which fix a ton of problems, including game-specific problems with the Messiah compatibility test, SpecOps 2, Revenant, and others. Epic's Tim Sweeney made an update to the Unreal Technology Page with a detailed explanation of their plans for licensing the Unreal Tournament engine for Playstation 2 games. 2-15-0 Court Rules for Software Maker announces that Connectix' Sony emulation software did not violate Sony's copyright, according to a federal appeals court. According to this story on ZDNet, Windows 2000, which ships next Thursday the 17th, contains 63,000 bugs in this initial release. Their source on the story is an internal Microsoft memo, which says that 28,000 of these are likely to be "real" problems. Microsoft was quick to defend the OS, saying that 750,000 testers agreed that it was ready for prime time, but knowing previous releases from the company, you may want to wait before upgrading. Aureal has released new drivers for A3D based cards (thanks Groltz). The ceremony will take place in a custom map & mod at 7:00 PM South African Time (GMT+2) on February 14, the always romantic Saint Valentine's Day. 2-11-0 3dfx has released new drivers for their Voodoo 3 3500 TV video card (thanks [Montella] Dennis Claesson). These drivers fix a ton of issues related to the card's video capture features, and there are now localized versions for each region. A new version 1.0.32 of the Q3AControl remote admin console is now available. Q3AControl can govern Quake, QuakeWorld, and Quake II servers in addition to Q3A servers, and the new release fixes some bugs, and adds several new features, including the ability to create a custom cVar file for each server. 2-10-0 Version 1.00 of ProQuake, a modification to the Quake source code, has been released. ProQuake is an enhancement to the Quake source code, and is 100% compatible with both regular Quake servers and clients. The changes range from minor fixes, such as fixed backscrolling in the console, to welcome additions like the addition of multiple connections from a single IP address. According to this press release, AMD has demonstrated a new version of their Athlon processor, running at the ungodly speed of a 1.1 GHz (1100 MHz). The processor was made at their Fab 30 facility in Germany, and utilizes the .18 micron process to reduce heat. S.H.U.D. stands for Stats Head-Up Display, and it adds some very cool enhancements to the Q3A HUD, including real-time stats on your shots, hits, and hit percentage (optionally can be separated for each weapon), display of rewards (impressive, excellent etc.), a frags per hour tally, a "new and improved scoreboard," and more. All the HUD's options can be turned on or off separately. The first beta release of Capture the Gunz (CTG) for Quake III Arena is now available. CTG is a teamplay mod that gives all members of a team access to a type of weapon when your team is the last to control its spawn point, while none of the opposition will have that weapon until regaining control, which likewise deprives their opponents. In addition to control of the arms race, these captures are a significant part of the mod's scoring, as grabbing a weapon nets you three frags and two more for each of your teammates. 2-7-0 Sorry for the lateness of today's update as I was in the hospital most of today. Microsoft bought ShadowFactor (the company that owns the product) last year, and plans to make the current version available as a free download on February 18th. A new version 1.41 of the Weapon Mod for Quake III Arena is now available on the Weapon Mod page. Weapon Mod allows you to adjust many different aspects of gameplay, allowing for easily customized servers. 2-4-0 A new version of Reload Be Gone (RBG) for Quake III Arena is now available on Quakeheads.Com. The mod alters the properties of some of the weapons. 2-3-0 The Quake3mods.Net Developer's FAQ attempts to answer the most frequently asked questions about making your own maps, skins, and modifications for Quake III Arena. Cold Storage Online has version 0.8 of K-stats, described as a pre-alpha "Gaming and Lan party Tournament / League Organiser Thingy." The program creates a database of gamers, allowing them to be assigned to different tournaments, keeping track of wins, losses, and other statistics. The program is part of an ongoing school project, so feedback is especially appreciated, and an unusually firm deadline of March 31, 2000 for version 1.0 has been set.
